Software Developer
Are you an experienced Software Developer who enjoys solving complex problems, building practical technology solutions and seeing your work make a real difference?
Joss is looking for a motivated and solutions-focused Software Developer to join our growing team in Albury. This is an opportunity to take ownership of software development from initial requirements and design through to implementation, production support and continuous improvement.
About the role
This is a hands-on development role where you’ll have the opportunity to influence how technology is designed, delivered and improved across the business.
You will:
- Design, develop and maintain web applications using C#, .NET, ASP.NET Core MVC and .NET Framework MVC.
- Build responsive web applications and Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) using TypeScript, JavaScript and SASS/SCSS.
- Develop server-side services, RESTful APIs and integrations with internal business systems and third-party platforms.
- Create offline-capable solutions for our field-based workforce, including caching, service workers and data synchronisation.
- Apply secure coding practices aligned with Joss’ ISO 27001-aligned information security policies.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, Git workflows and collaborative development practices.
- Investigate and resolve technical issues, support production systems and maintain clear technical documentation.
- Contribute to technical scoping, project estimates and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders to translate business requirements into practical, effective technology solutions.
You’ll have the opportunity to contribute ideas, improve existing systems and help shape solutions that support the way Joss operates.
About you
You’re a proactive, quality-focused developer who takes ownership of your work and enjoys seeing projects through from concept to completion. You approach challenges with curiosity, communicate clearly and work collaboratively to achieve the best outcomes.
To be successful, you will have:
- At least four years’ commercial software development experience.
- Strong experience with C#, .NET and ASP.NET MVC application development.
- Experience with TypeScript, JavaScript and SASS/SCSS.
- A working knowledge of RESTful APIs and front-end API integration.
- Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows, including branching and pull requests.
- An understanding of web security fundamentals, including authentication, authorisation and the OWASP Top 10.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate and resolve technical issues.
- Well-developed communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills, initiative and the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- A commitment to teamwork, continuous improvement, professional development and respectful workplace relationships.
A relevant qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
Skills that will set you apart
Experience in any of the following areas would be an advantage:
- SQL Server, including query optimisation, stored procedures and database schema changes.
- Modern front-end frameworks or component libraries, such as Angular, React, Vue or DevExtreme.
- Azure or other cloud-hosting platforms, CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
- Unit and integration testing frameworks, such as xUnit, NUnit, Jest or Playwright.
- Identity platforms and protocols, including Microsoft Entra ID, OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect.
- Progressive Web Apps, offline-first development and data synchronisation.
- Construction, facilities management or other field-service environments.
- ISO 27001 or similarly governed information security environments.
AI-assisted development
We’re also interested in developers who understand how AI tools can enhance software development while maintaining high standards of quality, security and accountability.
Experience with tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude or ChatGPT would be an advantage, particularly in:
- Using AI to assist with code generation, refactoring, testing, documentation and debugging.
- Critically reviewing and validating AI-generated code for accuracy, security, performance and logic.
- Writing clear prompts and providing appropriate technical context.
- Understanding data privacy, confidentiality, licensing and intellectual property considerations when using AI tools.
- Exploring opportunities to integrate AI services or large language model APIs into business applications.
AI experience is not essential. We value developers who are curious, adaptable and committed to using technology responsibly.
You must also be able to obtain a National Police Check, as required for work involving government clients.
